The Job Placement & Training program offers tuition assistance for vocational training certification programs and career support services to eligible individuals. It is designed for those pursuing career paths that lead to financial independence and self-sufficiency.
JPT is a ‘one-time only’ program with a maximum funding cap of $20,000 per eligible participant toward approved training programs and resources. All funding provided through the Job Placement & Training Program is contingent upon meeting the eligibility criteria.
Vocational training cannot exceed 24 months of full-time training hours, or 36 months for registered nursing programs. Students must seek additional financial assistance through their corporations, the job center, or state and federally funded programs. FAFSA applicants will need to provide their FAFSA funding amount received.
Tribal citizens who reside in the following communities must apply for JPT funding through their local Southeast Alaska IRA tribe:
- Angoon
- Douglas
- Hoonah
- Kake
- Kasaan
- Ketchikan
- Klukwan
- Petersburg
- Sitka
- Skagway
- Wrangell
- Yakutat
Eligibility Requirements
- Must reside in one of the communities served (see above).
- Must be tribally enrolled or demonstrate proof of eligibility for tribal enrollment or provide a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) from the BIA.
- Must be 18 or older.
- Must be unemployed or under-employed.
- Males 18–25 must provide proof of registration with the Selective Service.
